Services

QGIS
A freely available geospatial analysis tool. This tool can be useful to analyse datatypes like rasters and spatial objects like polygons, points, or lines, but also csv files containing X and Y coordinates.

R for Statistical Computing
This software is used for statistical computing and programming. All functions in QGIS, can also be done in R, however, there are more functionalities relating to statistical analysis and modelling.

Python
Python is a programming language. Most environmental analysis can be done in both python and R. Google Earth Engine and R can even be integrated in python.

Google Earth Engine
This platform is online and is very useful when using global datasets. The platform is online and uses many computers around the world to compute your desired spatial analysis.

Remote Sensing
In recent years earth observations from satellites have seen an unprecedented increase and many products are freely available and easy to use. Such products are a great potential for remote sensing of the environment.

Spatial Ecology
Spatial ecology analyses ecological components over a certain scale. Globally, for example, to create a digital twin of the worlds ecosystem integrity, or on the ecoregion level, or even just in a protected area.

Statistics
Within environmental sciences, statistics are fundamental. Many projects require testing of a hypothesis and thus require statistical testing of the data gathered.

Conservation Economics
Many projects relating to the conservation of wildlife often receive insufficient funds to be successful. Knowing how much is needed to be successful is thus fundamental.

Human-Wildlife Conflict
In many parts of the world people face conflict with animals. In Africa these are mostly large herbivores and carnivores. Addressing such issues are fundamental for a conservation project to be successful.

VHF-Tracking
This is an in-field technology used to track animals which are collared for monitoring within conservation projects. Such skills can be incredibly useful when doing research on behavioural spatial ecology.

Camera Trapping
This is an in-field technology used to capture presence data of different species, but can also be used to monitor wildlife behaviour without intensive intervention.

Scientific Writing
When publishing your desired project, it is important to write up a report of your findings in a scientific way to assure credibility and understanding. It also allows for peer review and improvement of the scientific knowledge.
